[style=letter-spacing: -1px; margin-bottom: 3px;]something about mary ;
the youngest of the mccormick clan and the only girl, quite often mary has felt a little singled out. nearly two hundred years younger than her next youngest siblings, mary has often felt a little like the odd one out for reasons she can't give words to other than the age difference. of course, mary loves her entire family more than anything, but now she's at university and doing her own thing, she feels much happier.
her childhood was fairly blissful. it was clear from the moment she could walk and talk that mary was very clever. learning her first word at about ten months old, and then being able to hold a somewhat complete conversation with people before her second birthday was a clear indication that the girl would be incredibly bright, if not a genius. along with her accelerated learning speed, she was also one to explore, forever trying to escape the watchful eyes of her parents and older brothers so that she could brave the big world outside. more often than not, she succeeded, and she'd disappear for an hour or two, only to slip back home unnoticed.
as she got older, mary's curiosity only grew. school came naturally to her, but she still worked hard, wanting to make her parents proud. far from being completely girly, mary also got involved in sports at an early age at the encouragement of her brothers, joining the school's soccer team and proving to be a talented midfielder as she played throughout the years. she stuck with it until her senior year of high school, but hasn't played since. her heart just wasn't in it.
mary's personality has always been a bit of a mash up. on one hand, she's incredibly gifted, intelligent and when she puts some effort into anything, it is accomplished quickly and to a high level. she's quick and eager to learn new things, forever curious about the world and the people around her, and unafraid to ask the questions floating around her head. she likes to people watch, but enjoys actually talking and expanding her horizons by doing rather than seeing. unfortunately, her brilliant mind is also the cause of her short attention span and the fact that she's bored incredibly easy. mary often multi-tasks, finding that swapping between numerous things keeps her brain from drifting and helps her get things done. she's also remarkably practical and hates beating around the bush. if she's avoiding something, or begins to ramble about something, she's either preoccupied or there's something not quite right with her. she can be incredibly charming and charismatic when she wants to be, and wise beyond her years, but for the most part, she's rather innocent and naive, her good upbringing shielding her from the world, rather than preparing her for it.
upon starting college, mary underwent a few changes. college lifestyle was so far from anything she had experienced at her private high school, and despite winning a full ride to one of norway's most exclusive colleges, the fact that party culture was a big part of college was a bit of a shock to mary. she was grateful for the independence she had craved for so many years, and it didn't take long for her to get over her initial shock and become a part of the local party crowd. her work ethic dwindled to an all time low until she was barely attending classes, but was mindful enough to ensure her grades were good enough to ensure her scholarship wasn't taken away from her. now a sophomore, mary's yet to decide what she wants to major in, but she isn't too bothered about making that decision just yet. for the moment, she's content to enjoy college as much as she can, in any way possible.
